Studio Raygun Brussels

Studio Raygun from Brussels was moving and was looking for a studio builder who could realize five studios in their new building very quickly and well. Since Mutrox also operates internationally, Peter and Liesbeth of Raygun naturally came to Mutrox.

For the studio construction of the new studio complex, Studio Raygun in Brussels was looking for high sound insulation and good sounding studios: two vocal recording rooms in which they could record speech and vocals without disturbing the other studios. There were also specific requirements in terms of room acoustics and appearance. Mutrox followed up and realized them.

Studio Raygun is growing a had to move to another location partly because of this. In their search they found on the Hooikade in Brussels an inspiring building in which they could realize their new studio complex. The challenge lay in carefully choosing the right proportions of the spaces and the required insulation value. Moving the materials in also proved to be a challenge that was well coordinated with the help of a professional moving company.

Mutrox first looked at the best room ratios for control rooms and vocal boothouses before building the studios. Assigning the right room ratios is necessary so that build-up frequencies do not coincide. This makes making the room acoustically correct easier than not taking this into account. Choosing a heavy, bend-slack wall construction gives us control over the energy produced in the room. By using a new high-mass wall system, the resonant frequency in walls and ceiling was reduced, bringing the extinction frequency below the hearing range. The result is a high sound insulation value and correct sound perception in the room when mixing there. With resonators and acoustically absorbent wall panels that fit into a living room environment, the room acoustics in the studio were set up. This allows engineers and clients to enjoy the studio while sitting in a living room environment.

The result was more than successful. The total construction of the studios was completed in six weeks. The vocal boothouses have a very high sound isolation value which allows work to be done in the individual rooms without disturbing the other studios. All studios are acoustically clad with modules custom designed for Studio Raygun with input from Peter and Liesbeth who were super involved in the overall design of the spaces.

The cooperation on this project between Studio Raygun and Mutrox worked very well. Because they aimed at the highest level, it was inevitable that very impressive studios were realized.
