Gerard van Hamburg is a musician pur sang. For years he has been passionately teaching music in various fields. He wanted to pursue his passion on a professional level and, in his search for quiet and good-sounding rooms, he ended up at Mutrox.

Gerard was looking for soundproofing and good sounding rooms. A space where he could bang with his driven students without disturbing others. Mutrox offered him a "box-in-box construction" with a very high sound insulation value.

Mutrox first looked at the best room ratios for practice rooms before building the studio spaces. Assigning the right room ratios is necessary so that build-up frequencies do not coincide. This makes making the room acoustically correct easier than not taking this into account. Choosing a heavy, bend-slack wall construction gives us control over the energy produced in the room. By using a new high-mass wall system, the resonant frequency in walls and ceiling was reduced, bringing the extinction frequency below the hearing range. The result is a high sound insulation value and a correct experience in the room when music is played there.

In order to be able to use one room as a singing room as well, we have adapted these room acoustics to this as well. This allows optimal practice in the space designed for this purpose.

The result is more than successful. The three practice rooms have a very high insulation value that allows lessons in other disciplines in the individual rooms. The drum booth is equipped with panel resonators that reduce the layer buildup from the drums. Specially designed diffusers keep the room sufficiently lively allowing the drummer to experience the "feel" of the room.

The cooperation on this project between Gerard and Mutrox worked so well that two more follow-up projects were realized. Because they aimed for the highest level, a very impressive music school was realized. Popschool Hoeksche Waard' has become a professional platform for talented musicians.
