Mutrox home theater with Star Wars Wink
Bram has been, since early childhood, a huge movie buff. Initiated by cinema visits together with his father, the love for watching movies in large format has grown from an early age. When the situation arose to set up his own cinema space, he did not hesitate for a moment and contacted us. For Bram and his family, we then built a sleek home theater with a Star Wars nod.
The question
Mutrox's assignment was to build a home theater in an extension of about 3 x 5 m with, of course, outstanding picture and sound quality. The home theater had to be equipped with a Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 layout and 4K HDR image quality. Limited soundproofing was also desired. The layout was allowed to be simple and functional, but had to be sleek and neatly finished.
The solution
With every home theater we build, we look very carefully at the many different parameters that ultimately determine the experience, such as:
- The screen size and related viewing and projection distance
- the low frequency response at the chosen listening position (standing waves)
- the position of the various speakers
- sound and image reflections
- the reverberation time in the room
It is important to ensure that all aspects work together optimally. This involves a lot of knowledge and experience.
Based on the length of the room and the viewing distance, the choice in this case was a wall-to-wall screen of 3 meters wide. The JVC DLA-N7B projector used is very capable of producing a truly stunning picture at this width. With perfect blacks, beautiful colors and a stabbing image sharpness. Of course, the projector was fully ISF calibrated by Mutrox and the sound was tuned to perfection. The Arcam receiver used is equipped with Dirac Live, which can give an enormous improvement if properly tuned.
At the front of the room, we built a solid "baffle-wall" to mount the Bowers & Wilkins CWM 7.4 s2 speakers resonance-free behind Screen Research's acoustically transparent screen. Below the baffle-wall came a cabinet for all the equipment. The Bowers & Wilkins DB4S subwoofers provide a tight and solid tactile foundation.
For perfect acoustics, we installed a black acoustic stretch ceiling containing warm white Philips Hue spotlights and Bowers & Wilkins CCM 7.5 s2 Atmos speakers. We also calculated the ideal amount of acoustically absorbent wall panels. For the finishing touch, we mounted low-resonators on the back wall, hidden behind two beautiful "vintage" Star Wars graphics. These low-resonators provide an even tighter bass response.
To ensure less nuisance to the rest of the house during movie watching, we installed dampers in the ventilation system and a solid acoustically insulating door.
A lovely lounge sofa with "hidden" storage for Blu-ray and DVDs under the seats was purchased by the client himself. How wonderful to relax on this sofa with a wonderful movie!

The result
With its wall-to-wall 16:9 screen, 'immersive' 3D sound, perfect acoustics and professional finish, the experience of movies in this room is of the highest level. And that despite its relatively small dimensions. Thus proving once again that a huge room is not necessary for a great home theater experience!
Most importantly, however, the Van Egters family is extremely pleased with the end result and makes great use of this wonderful space.

I love that one! I enjoy it at least 3x a week! Both with movies and music!
Those are me and to a lesser extent my children, but especially me. My wife and I also still sometimes watch a movie together when the kids are in bed. For us that is an escape because we can't go to the cinema, so we do it at home now.
About once every 2 weeks I would say.
That is definitely the movie "Godzilla vs. Kong"! Of course, the movie is one of popcorn level, but image and sound are so overwhelming! You are totally taken by the images! The image from the JVC projector is also fantastic, of course! That movie itself and the impact the movie had are very memorable to me!
This is actually my wish and it has its origin in my childhood. My father was often away, sometimes months at a time. And then when he came back, he would always take me to the cinema in Rotterdam. And from that experience my love for movies and the cinema grew, because it was always a nice moment to have that together. That's really how it came about! Because we didn't have that much money otherwise back in the day, I would then get one more hamburger at McDonalds - the first one in Rotterdam - and one comic book. That's also how a whole collection of comic books came about in the end... Hahaha!
In my opinion, there are no real competitors. If you really want it done at this level, I think there is only one real party that can do it and that is you guys! I had done preliminary research and was looking for a party with expertise who could build my cinema professionally.
As very positive! I really liked the fact that you guys think along with me, and during construction I was impressed with the professionalism and skill of the construction team. It's all incredibly professional. I thought those carpenters did an excellent job with a lot of skill. I really liked that and they were also extremely friendly guys. If there was anything it was also solved immediately. The service is very pleasant. If I ever move, I will come to you again!
That one is 100%! Of course, it's a niche product that you sell and not everyone has interest and money for it, but I already have two friends who will definitely contact you when they move!
