Mutrox home theater in the clouds
We built a cargo plane with cloud cinema for Mr. Bruiners. In his business premises in the green heart, Jacob Bruiners wanted his own office with cinema.
The question
As a big fan of aerial sports, we were asked by Jacob to realize a cinema with vestibule and pantry in which this theme was evident. We realized a cinema where you fly from the cloud cover into the starry night, and where you enter through a recreated interior of a classic cargo plane, including pantry.
The solution
With every home theater we build, we look very carefully at the many different parameters that ultimately determine the experience, such as:
- The screen size and related viewing and projection distance
- The low frequency response at the chosen listening position (standing waves)
- The position of the various speakers
- Sound and image reflections
- The reverberation time in the room
- And many more technical and aesthetic aspects
It is important to ensure that all aspects work together to an ideal degree. This involves a lot of knowledge and experience.
- Bowers&Wilkins CWM7.4S2 and CCM7.5S2
- The processing & reinforcement was provided by the client
- JVZ DLA-NZ7
- Sony VPL-VW290ES 4K HDR projector
- Screen Research 2.40:1 acoustic transparent screen 3.0 m wide
The result
The dimensions of this cinema were largely determined by the dimensions of the floor in the commercial building. We first built a 40dB noise-reducing shell to prevent nuisance to adjacent business areas. The cinema is fully equipped with Bowers&Wilkins speakers in Dolby 7.1.4 format for impressive 3D sound. A JVC NZ7 projector was chosen for projection, which projects onto a 3-meter-wide acoustically transparent screen by Screen Research. The two side walls and back wall feature a printed, acoustically transparent fabric, in which you float from a blue and white cloud cover slowly into the starry night. Behind this are the speakers and acoustic materials for tuning the room's acoustics. Of course, the ceiling has a stretch ceiling behind which the speakers and acoustic materials are incorporated. For the lighting we use Phillips HUE.
Most special about this cinema is perhaps the entrance. For this we drew inspiration from Jacob's passion for air sports. We realized a cross-section of the inside of a classic cargo plane, including a pantry. Own content can be played on the three screens placed behind the `windows'. Through the aircraft door you step into the cinema.
Interview
After completing a project, we like to hear how our clients experienced the cooperation, and if they like the result.
This found Jacob Bruiners:
Very good! I can greatly enjoy the sound and picture quality and the little details you hear now. Also from the acoustics; I'm actually a techie and still very concerned with everything I see and hear happening now. Meanwhile, I can surrender more and more to the great cinematic experience I can experience here.
I myself most of the time anyway, but also regularly with my family or with friends. Everyone is impressed. Both the audio and video quality as well as the great design that Mutrox realized here.
When I started talking to Mutrox about creating my own damping shell, all kinds of cool and creative ideas quickly emerged. I actually came for a square black box, but while talking one thing led to another and that's how this concept came about and was realized by Mutrox. Aerial sports are my great passion and that has been fantastically incorporated here in and around the cinema. They are enormously creative and know how to turn that into a concrete result. In addition, the quality of the audio is very important to me. With Mutrox I immediately had the idea that they had a lot of knowledge in the field of sound insulation and acoustics, so I was confident that the room would sound really good.
I find Mutrox a very pleasant party to work with, pro-active, they think along with you, take that extra step and they take care of things when necessary. They drew the entire design in advance and made renders of it. I remember receiving photos during construction and not knowing whether I was looking at the render or a photo of the construction, that's how similar the final result was to the design made beforehand.
I can definitely recommend Mutrox. I came in as a customer who actually already knew everything and had everything already, and by starting to think along with me immediately, we still ended up with this concept. To me, that's a good example of how Mutrox thinks with the customer. Go talk to Mutrox, tell them what keeps you busy in life and they come up with a cool concept that really suits you and can actually make it! For me, they were a very nice partner to realize this project with!
