Luxury Mutrox home theater in Westland
For the Mutrox team, there is nothing more enjoyable than thinking together with the client about the design and technical interpretation of their home theater. How can we combine ideal speaker placement with the perfect 'look' and how can we give the room a distinctive character? What are the ideal dimensions of the room and how can we ensure that the acoustic elements in the room blend perfectly into the decoration? Is the screen correctly sized for the room and is the viewing distance correct? There are many questions to answer and many things to consider. But the end result is ultimately a home theater room in which everything is right.
The question
Through home automation specialist JNV Audiovisual Tastemakers, we came into contact with their client, who commissioned us to design and build a home theater in the basement of their newly built home. Outstanding picture and sound quality with an appropriate luxurious decoration were a must. Attention was paid to every detail. In particular, the special segmented ceiling with RGBW LED lighting and the round wall elements with wood finish deserve attention in this stunningly beautiful room.
It was important that the home theater would fit perfectly with the rest of the luxurious and modern home in terms of "look and feel. The use of special materials with a unique design was the starting point. Also, all possible 3D audio formats such as Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Auro-3D had to be playable without compromise. To ensure that the cinema could be used without disturbing the other housemates, an acoustically insulating shell was also a requirement.
Apart from building the home theater, we also looked at the acoustics of the house itself. The tight finish in the rest of the house could cause acoustic problems. Therefore, we installed an acoustic stretch ceiling in almost the entire house in which we also perfectly concealed the lighting and multi-room Bowers & Wilkins speakers.
The solution
For JNV Audiovisual Tastemakers, Mutrox is the party they approach for their high-end home cinemas. The experience, knowledge and expertise we have in building systems, acoustics, sound insulation and cinema/sound design are the perfect combination with the specialties of JNV Audiovisual Tastemakers. The result is a stunning and unique design with a heavy dose of luxury. In this home theater, design and perfect picture and sound quality come together seamlessly!
Every design process of the ultimate home theater we at Mutrox always start by determining the dimensions of the room. We do this according to the most favorable acoustic ratios. So too here. To guarantee the necessary sound insulation to the rest of the house, we built a sound insulating shell of 40 dB(A) around this cinema. For this shell we used the unique Mutrox decoupling system which, together with the wall and ventilation damper system, ensures that the cinema can be played at full volume without disturbing anyone in the rest of the house.
For the wall design, Mutrox conceived and produced, in collaboration with interior designer Jean-Paul Laurijssen of Brokx, a combination of round, wood-clad elements with fabric sections placed in between. The wood elements are beautifully illuminated by ceiling spotlights and serve both an aesthetic and acoustic function as diffusers. Behind the acoustically transparent fabric panels were placed the surround speakers and acoustic absorbers. For the ceiling design, a unique design was created consisting of individual segments illuminated with RGBW LED strips. An absolute eye-catcher in the cinema! Above this, the height/Atmos channels were mounted. Of course, we ensured that the ceiling also makes an acoustically positive contribution to the sound in the room.
Working with double-level seating, everyone is guaranteed a good view of the wall-to-wall "Cinemascope" screen. It's good to relax on the electrically adjustable Mutrox VIP CineSeats. The double stage also doubles as a huge 'bass trap,' guaranteeing the listener super-tight low end. The brown tone in the carpeting on the floor and both stages perfectly matches the wood and fabric elements in the room.
Fantastic image and sound experience
To control the Atmos 7.1.4 loudspeaker setup used, JNV Audiovisual tastemakers chose a Genesis technology NGTC-MCP4K multichannel processor / Lyngdorf MP-50 surround processor, connected via the digital Dante protocol to amplification from Crown. In the baffle wall, Bowers & Wilkins CWM8.3D speakers provide an outstanding "front stage. The two Bowers & Wilkins DB2D subwoofers concealed in the cabinet below the screen have more than enough sound pressure for a palpable and clean low end. 700-series speakers were used for the other channels: four CWM 7.4 s2 speakers on the wall and four CCM 7.5 s2s on the ceiling. The cabinet below the screen also houses the Sony Blu-ray player.
For the perfect 4K HDR image, a JVC DLA-RS2000 projector and 3.56-meter-wide Screen Research acoustic transparent screen are used in this home theater. Naturally, image and sound were tuned to perfection by Mutrox.
The audio and video equipment, lighting control, multi-room audio and home automation were provided by JNV Audiovisual Tastemakers. Operation could be done with a Crestron remote control.

This is what the family found
Likes it heartily, starting to get weather for it! We don't use it as much in the summer, I'll be honest about that. But when it starts raining and it gets a little darker, it's time to start up the home theater again.
Both do. I usually watch series with Dolby Atmos. Then I know the sound is okay. Of course, watching in the theater gives a much nicer experience than watching on television.
Yes, definitely! My daughter sometimes sits alone in the home theater and I also watch with my wife on a regular basis. I think once or twice on the weekends, especially with less weather. Less in summer, when there is much more to do outside. See, for watching once a month it's quite an expensive expense, so we try to sit there a little more often... Hahaha! There were also few movies released last year, that also plays into it.
Most I stream. Apple TV, Netflix, Disney, Prime Video... It's important to choose the right subscription, though, so you actually have the highest quality, otherwise it's a waste.
I know I watched a children's movie once: Mowgli. That one is also in Dolby Atmos. It was so exciting at one point that my daughter started crying. You really felt at one scene in a cage that they were walking above your head. With this movie, the Dolby Atmos effect came out tremendously well.
That's actually the fault of the guys at JNV Audiovisual Tastemakers, hahaha. I wanted a surround system in the living room and at JNV Audiovisual Tastemakers they said to me, "If you want really good sound and picture, you should come with me to Mutrox's showroom and we'll go look at a home theater there sometime." I did that and then the choice was pretty quick. First I wanted to turn it into a sports room... But well, sports room or home theater: give me the cinema then! So it went from a surround set in the living room to a home theater in the basement!
The planning went completely well. We had a construction supervisor who took care of everything and we were not delayed anywhere. Also, as far as you guys are concerned, if we needed you, you were there.
