Ferry Corsten

As a producer and one of the world's best-known DJs, he was looking for a workspace that fully met his needs and desires. A professional music studio where even more hits will find their way. Ferry Corsten's work domain has therefore become a state of the art, demountable, custom designed, S.M.R.T studio.

Together with Ferry, we discussed all the wishes and details for the studio. In the studio building design, these wishes are reflected in the acoustics, lighting plan, ergonomics and color schemes. These detailed drawings ensured that, for example, the custom-tuned bass traps, panel absorbers and diffusers for the acoustics could be milled and cut with the utmost precision by computer.

Due to the specific design and mathematical way of acoustic approach in the studio, we achieved an exceptional result. The reverberation times in the studio from 200 Hz to 16 KHz are around 0.2 sec (+/- 0.05 sec). Below 200 Hz to 45 Hz the values are (on average) slightly higher; 0.35 sec. These values can even be influenced by an ingenious system we applied in the Helmholz resonators. The studio can be tuned acoustically to Ferry's personal taste.

The studio furniture designed by Mutrox is made of oak Dosse noble veneer finished in clear lacquer and has a number of handy features. For example, the hardware synths are neatly connected in drawers so that they are stored dust-free. The fronts of these fully extendable drawers, can be flipped over at the moment Ferry starts playing. All drawers and fronts are of course equipped with a soft close system. The backs of the cabinets are removable so that cabling can easily be added at a later time.

The two times ten HE 19-inch built-in cabinets are finished in black sprayed oak Dosse edged veneer and set at a 20-degree angle in the top. Space has been made on the right side of the cabinet for more hardware and a keyboard. A riser is used to adjust the monitor to the correct height for Ferry. The orange color of the slats of the Helmholz resonators returns in the studio furniture to create a synergy with the studio.

Not unimportant to mention is the on-site construction time. Because of our new construction system of the S.M.R.T studio - which has already proven itself at Discovery Channel - the construction time on site was only eight days! A professional studio, delivered complete with air conditioning, ventilation, acoustics, electrics, lighting and floor finishes. The custom studio furniture was also installed in this time frame so the cable guy could get right to work.

We therefore look back with Ferry on a successful project! And, meanwhile, since the construction, DJs like Armin van Buren have visited Ferry and several hits have already been produced by him. For Mutrox the proof that a well designed space invites creativity!
