A multipurpose drum studio for DrummerMartijn

Drumming is in Martijn's blood! He was already playing at the age of 6. Living in Utrecht on the third floor, it was impossible to practice his profession as a drummer in a pleasant way. When the opportunity arose to move to a corner house with a garage on the street side, a lot of things came together for him! "You're in the noise at the end anyway, and you don't want to be dead tired after a day of teaching. At my studio that has been very successful, I can put in my hours there!" said Martijn.

"I was looking for a space where I could make noise undisturbed, where I could teach and - what was very important - where I could work on my social media videos. I do that under the name DrummerMartijn. So all the videos with the blue-black back since the beginning of 2019 were made in your studio," Martijn says. "I had previously had a white cab from s-mono, but they are not customizable. So I was looking for the most perfect solution possible, both in terms of construction and acoustics. Something that suited my specific situation. Then I very quickly ended up at Mutrox. I talked to Harm and then visited your showroom. Then I was actually quick to decide!"

"I also made a conscious choice from the beginning: I didn't want any windows in it, I really wanted to make a kind of creative 'man cave', a 'drum cave' in other words, hahaha! I had to be able to get creative, but as a professional drummer I also teach. And I had to be able to prepare and practice things in it. But so I was definitely also concerned with making the YouTube videos. That ranges from instructional videos to performance videos. Drumeo is the absolute leader in this. They have stuff that I can only dream about. But I cannot deny that the inspiration for even the color scheme of my studio comes from their concept and videos.

For Martijn, we built a 40 dB studio in his garage. This made an ultimate dream come true for him: to be able to drum at any time of the day without disturbing anyone. The space was decorated with beautiful colors and lighting in close cooperation with Martijn and equipped with an acoustic stretch ceiling with lighting and the right acoustic adjustments for a neutral and tight drum sound. Not to mention so excellent insulation value! Martijn explains, "I was talking to one of my neighbors the other day and she looked at me strangely when I told them I was drumming in the garage... 'But we never hear you', to which I replied, And so that's exactly the intention! Hahaha!".

"It's just fantastic how it turned out! The room in itself is not very big, but I can exactly put two drum sets next to each other in a teaching situation. I'm very pleased with both the acoustics inside the room and the insulation to the outside. It just works really well. The sound inside the studio is so good that I can also make excellent recordings of my drum kit there. My girlfriend often sits in the room next door watching TV, so then she sits 2-3 meters away from my drum kit as the crow flies, but it works fine. That's really great!"

Martijn Soeterbroek (born 1981) aka DrummerMartijn is a professional drummer, teacher, composer, vlogger and producer. After completing his studies at Codarts Rotterdam and the HKU, where he graduated cum laude, he started working as a recording and performing artist, both freelance and in a band, and is known for his versatility.

Since 2009 he has been recording videos on YouTube as "DrummerMartijn" (link: https://www.youtube.com/c/DrummerMartijn), covering a wide range of drum-related topics. This makes Martijn one of the largest independent Dutch drum channels. Martijn writes drum method books and is a well-known teacher at the Centrum voor de Kunsten Eindhoven (CKE) and the Utrecht Conservatory of Music (HKU).
