Dream cinema at home with Space theme

Client
Yvo

We were approached by Yvo with the request to build a home theater for him in his basement room. It became a dream space-themed cinema, and that is immediately apparent the moment you open the entrance door to the basement staircase: the home theater visitor is totally put in the right mood by a beautiful view of the Milky Way! The images also serve to reduce reverberation in the stairwell. Once in the room, the dynamic shapes of the carefully placed acoustic panels with Bowers & Wilkins invisible concealed speakers create the ultimate home theater experience. All in Dolby Atmos 7.1.4, of course! We proudly give this magnificent home theater the title "To Infinity and Beyond"!

The question

Yvo had the desire for a home theater to relax watching movies and series and gaming. His basement turned out to be the perfect cinema space for this purpose! The spacious dimensions allowed for proper placement of speakers and seating areas. Of course, the best possible picture and sound quality within the budget were an absolute requirement, but styling was also important to Yvo.

The solution

Together with Yvo, we determined the styling of his home theater, partly based on the demountable home theater we built for Bowers & Wilkins at the ISE. By combining the acoustic panels in the specific 'hyves' shape with the 'space age' wallpaper and subtle lighting elements, we created a luxurious and futuristic atmosphere with a retro nod. This space really looks fantastic!

For Mutrox, calculating and realizing an acoustically perfectly adapted home theater is a real specialty. A correct reverberation time and effective treatment of sound reflections are of utmost importance for a convincing sound illusion. In Yvo's home theater, the floor covering and acoustic stretch ceiling combined with carefully placed acoustic panels combine to create the ideal conditions for film playback.

For a true movie experience, we placed Bowers & Wilkins 700-series in-wall speakers invisibly behind an acoustically transparent 'cinemascope' screen by Screen Research. The image is projected by a Mutrox fully ISF-calibrated JVC D-ILA projector. For a complete holographic sound image, the surround speakers used at the sides and back of the room are identical to the fronts. The Atmos speakers, together with the ceiling spotlights, were placed above a black acoustic stretch ceiling and, combined with the perfect acoustic treatment of the rest of the room, give the illusion that the walls and ceiling of the room completely disappear. Wow, this is how it should be!

For a tight layer with maximum impact, we worked two Bowers & Wilkins DB3D subwoofers invisible under the screen. This is also where the game consoles find a place.

About Yvo

Yvo is a real movie lover who had the desire to have a separate room to relax watching movies and gaming. He came to us with his wish and together we came up with a great design. Because of the extremely fine cooperation, we were able to ensure that the realized home theater far exceeded our and Yvo's expectations. To Infinity and Beyond!
