Through DJ and producer Sidney Samson, Mutrox came into contact with fellow DJ and producer friend Franky Rizardo. Franky asked us to make an acoustic design for his new studio. After getting acquainted, viewing the space and an acoustics measurement, we started working with the measurement data and Franky's wishes.

The lower frequencies for his studio had to be controlled in detail. No resonances and similarly let the reverberation times for these low frequencies die out according to an ideal timbre. The early reflections had to be broadband absorbed for minimal comb filtering, good stereo imaging and low sound coloration. There also needed to be more spaciousness behind the mix position.

We met these needs by installing wide-band bass traps in the back corners, across the entire height. To address the bass build-up at the front of the room narrowband, we chose two Helmhotz resonator traps from Mutrox that are tuneable between 50 and 130 Hz and set them at Franky to the dominant room modes.

The ceiling is equipped with three custom broadband absorbers whose heights are adjustable. This makes it possible to influence the lower limit of the ceiling's reflections to be absorbed. The leftmost and rightmost ceiling panel can also be folded down and in front of the window. This creates two additional bass traps that can be folded down for extreme precision in the mixing and mastering process. While composing, these can remain up so that the view and incident sunlight can be fully enjoyed while working.

To break up the reflections at the mix position, we mounted RPG diffusers with minor customization in strategic locations. This corrects the reverberation time and adds more spaciousness behind the mix position.

Because the studio building system at Hans Fieggen worked so well, we developed it for larger spaces. As a result, it is now possible (by yourself) and with a minimal budget to transform a hobby bedroom into a professional sound studio in a few days.
