ArtEZ Conservatory of Music Custom Practice Rooms for Jazz and Pop

Conservatorium ArtEZ in Arnhem was looking for new practice rooms for the Pop and Jazz department. Because the ArtEZ Conservatory of Arnhem teaches at the highest level and because the cooperation with Mutrox had gone well before, they found Mutrox again in their search for quiet and good sounding rooms.

Conservatorium ArtEZ Arnhem was looking for high sound insulation and good sounding rooms. A space in which they could teach driven students without disturbing others. There were also specific wishes regarding room acoustics, which Mutrox followed up and realized.

Mutrox first considered the best room ratios for liverooms for the studio construction of both spaces. Assigning the right room ratios is necessary so that build-up frequencies do not coincide. This makes making the room acoustically correct easier than not taking this into account. Choosing a heavy, bend-slack wall construction gives us control over the energy produced in the room. By using a new high-mass wall system, the resonant frequency in walls and ceiling was reduced, bringing the extinction frequency below the hearing range. The result is a high sound insulation value and a correct perception in the room when music is played there. With resonators and an acoustically absorbing ceiling, the room acoustics in the liveroom were arranged flexibly. This makes the room comfortable for students and teachers.

The result has been more than successful. The two rooms were realized in three weeks during the vacation shutdown and have a very high insulation value that allows practicing in the separate rooms. Without being disturbed by the other room. Both rooms are acoustically dressed with modules suitable for liverooms. As a result, the reverberation time is under control and not overdamped so that it is pleasant to make music.

The collaboration on this project between ArtEZ and Mutrox worked synergistically. Because we aimed at the highest level, it was inevitable that once again very impressive classrooms were realized here. With these new studio spaces, ArtEZ conservatory meets the highest standard in teaching talented musicians.
