Bowers & Wilkins is an authority on speakers. Because their home theater speaker line is being increasingly discovered, they were looking for a professional home theater that could be shown to a large audience at the ISE trade show. Because this theater had to be built to Dolby specifications, it was quite a challenge to find the right party for it. In their search, Bowers & Wilkins ended up with Mutrox for their new demountable home theater. Because we are acoustic consultants of Bowers & Wilkins speakers and sparring partner of Dolby, we have a lot of experience in building high quality home theaters and Mix theaters for film. Bowers & Wilkins could put that knowledge to good use in their cinema plans for the largest systems integration exhibition in the world.

For the design and construction of a demountable home theater, Bowers & Wilkins was looking for high sound isolation of over 50 dB and good-sounding acoustics for listening to the latest 3D audio formats. There were also specific requirements in terms of room acoustics and appearance. Mutrox picked up on this and realized this concept in an impressive home theater that can be set up in two days.

Bowers & Wilkins stopped by Mutrox in 2012. After several conversations about the philosophy of reproducing sound, we found out that the thinking was the same. Both companies want to take away or add as little as possible from the original recording. That's what perception of sound is all about! Then they also told us they had that clear future vision for sound for film in a dedicated home theater. The CI800 CWM 8.3 was the first in the world to be integrated in 7.1 format in Mutrox's home theater in Numansdorp. Meanwhile, interested customers from all over the world come to Numansdorp to listen to this home theater. To show this impressive cinema experience to a wider audience it was decided to implement this cinema in Auro 3D, Dolby Atmos and DTS-X and show it at the ISE in 2015.

For the construction of this demountable home theater, Mutrox first looked at the best room ratios for home theater according to Dolby standards. Assigning the right room ratios is necessary to spread build-up frequencies as much as possible. This makes making the room acoustically correct more predictable than if this were not taken into account. By using bend-slack wall construction in construction, we gain control over the energy produced in the room. Something very important in the experience of low frequencies in a home theater. On top of that came the challenge of realizing all this in a demountable concept that could be assembled in two days without losing sight of the high quality requirements. The result is a high sound insulation value of 55 dB(A) and a correct experience in the room when watching film in it. With resonators and acoustically absorbent custom panels, the room acoustics in the home theater were set up according to Dolby standards in terms of reverberation time. This makes this home theater a good place to be for movie lovers.

The result was more than successful. The total construction of the cinema at the fair was realized in two days. Quite an achievement knowing that the cinema weighs 12 tons! The home theater has a very high sound insulation value, so that visitors to the cinema become completely immersed in their experience and forget about the ISE fair for a moment. The acoustics in the home theater of Bowers & wilkins were custom designed by us for them according to the high requirements of Dolby professional theaters.
